The Bocci 76 Random: Poetic Chaos in a Cloud of Light
The Bocci 76 Random is an expressive, airy variation within the iconic 76 series by Canadian design studio Bocci. Where the wall version nestles subtly into the surface, the Random installation releases light into the space—like a floating cloud of shimmering glass and sparkling accents. The result is a luminous sculpture that embodies both lightness and complexity.
Each sphere in the installation is hand-blown and features a unique combination of clear and opaline glass, encasing delicate copper threads that conduct electricity. This subtle technical detail also forms the aesthetic core of the design. When grouped together, the spheres create a dynamic composition that hovers between order and randomness—a carefully orchestrated “chaos” that appears different from every angle and in changing light.
The 76 Random is designed as a suspended installation, with multiple pendants attached to the ceiling in a seemingly arbitrary (yet intentional) arrangement. The result is a playful, organic cluster of light points that transforms the space. Whether suspended over a staircase, within a double-height void, or centered in a lobby, the composition evokes a sense of weightlessness, as if light itself has gathered in a cloud.
Architecturally, the 76 Random functions as a floating art object—a focal point that brings both stillness and tension. Its variable density, height, and overall diameter allow the piece to adapt to a wide range of scales—from intimate settings to monumental interiors.
Whether in a private home, gallery, or public building, the Bocci 76 Random injects every space with a tangible sense of poetry and wonder. It is a design that not only illuminates, but also sparks the imagination.
