84 - Cluster Column
The Bocci 84 Cluster Column: a vertical symphony of light
The Bocci 84 Cluster Column is an understated masterpiece that embraces the space with a soft, organic elegance. Designed by Omer Arbel, this lamp is a tribute to the craft of glassblowing and the beauty of imperfection.
Each sphere in the cluster is handcrafted: a white glass sphere is captured in a fine copper mesh and immersed in hot, clear glass. By blowing air into the matrix, the white glass is gently pushed through the mesh, creating a delicate, cushion-like shape that floats within the thick outer glass. Sometimes the copper mesh folds and ripples, making each lamp unique. The undulations in the outer shape are a natural result of the manufacturing process and accentuate the soft white cushion beneath.
The cluster is hung at different heights, creating a vertical composition that evokes falling drops or a soft rain of light. This arrangement creates a dynamic effect, where the lamp not only illuminates but also transforms the space itself.
The warm glow that radiates from the lamp is enhanced by the copper, which develops a natural patina over time. This process makes each lamp even more unique and adds a sense of history and character.
The Bocci 84 Cluster Column is more than a light source; it is a work of art that breathes into the space, a silent witness to craftsmanship and time. It is an invitation to stand still, to look and to feel.
